Evangelical Mission to Ukraine

The Evangelical Mission to Ukraine was founded in 1977 by Dr. Alex and Mary Piatocha. Being burdened because of the oppression against Christianity, they traveled many times to Ukraine carrying suitcases full of Bibles. Some of the Bibles did get through and into the hands of believers.

Alex preached the Gospel, while Mary was busy with outreach one-on-one and humanitarian aid to the poor.

Their vision was to establish a centre in Ukraine, to provide humanitarian aid, to teach pastors and missionaries and to preach the Word of God. This dream was realized. Today, August, 2007 a compound providing all of these services stands at 9A Viytovicha St. in the City of Lviv. To see the detailed story of this facility click on The Humanitarian Centre/Seminary – The Hub of Activity.

Alex and Mary, although now being titled Directors Emeritus, continue to be very active with the Mission, traveling at least once per year to Ukraine, and then traveling throughout the country, visiting missionaries, churches and pastors.

Alex continues his teaching and preaching ministry while Mary can always be found either visiting the sick, or serving the hungry from the kitchen.

Over the 30-year period many people have been fed and clothed physically from the Headquarters in Lviv. Missionaries now serve in 12 Oblasts in Ukraine.

Sound theological texts have been translated into the Ukrainian language for use by the Pastors, Missionaries and Sunday School teachers graduating from the Seminary. Many Bibles have been distributed.

Many sick and needy people have been fed, visited, encouraged and given the Gospel first hand.

Many churches were helped with purchase and construction of Prayer Houses and Summer Bible Camps equipped with tents.

Great friendships have developed and the Canadian Christian Community is now well known and represented in Ukraine
